Business operators in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district, report that the situation has largely returned to normal following the holiday season, although they are experiencing a decline in customer traffic.
The operators shared these observations yesterday during an interview with KKCR FM News reporters in Kagadi town.
According to local entrepreneurs, the festive season brought a surge of people to the town as they prepared for celebrations. The town was bustling with activity, and customers were more inclined to make purchases without much concern for prices.
Amanya Aramanzani, Director of Amanya Tailoring Centre, stated that during the festive period, their business experienced a significant increase in customers who were willing to spend despite higher prices.
“Before Christmas, we had a lot of customers, and the demand was high. For instance, the price for sewing a gown during the festive season was 100,000 UGX, but now it has reduced to 60,000 UGX,” he explained.
He also noted that most current customers are focused on purchasing school supplies, particularly uniforms.
Lydia Patience Night, Director of God’s Favour Farm Shop, has also reported a shift in customer trends.
She noted that during the festive season, they attracted numerous customers, including those from outside Kagadi district. However, the situation has since changed.
According to Patience, the price of a large chicken, which was 70,000 UGX during the festive period, has now dropped to 50,000 UGX due to the decline in customer numbers.
Meanwhile, Medard Aheebwa, also known as Sabampambani, a shoe vendor, noted that although the number of customers has decreased, the prices of shoes have remained stable.
He stated that despite the decline in customer turnout, there has been no change in shoe prices.
“The highest price for a pair of shoes is still 100,000 UGX,” he confirmed.
