A footballer has died during a friendly match between supporters of international teams Manchester United and Arsenal in Nkoma Sub county, Kamwenge District.
The deceased has been identified as Gilbert Gafwa, in his 20s, a resident of Ntenungi A, Nkoma Katalyeba Town Council, in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, Kamwenge District.
Gafwa was playing at Kaberebere Playground in Nkoma Sub county on Sunday, 17 August 2025, according to sources who preferred to remain anonymous.
It is alleged that during the match, Gafwa collided with a fellow player and began bleeding from the mouth and nose. Concerned residents rushed him to the nearest clinic for urgent treatment; however, he was pronounced dead en route.
In a phone interview with our reporter, Patrick Twinembabazi, Officer In-Charge at Rwamwanja Police Station, confirmed the incident.
He added that authorities are awaiting a post-mortem report from Rwamwanja HC4 to establish the exact cause of Gafwa’s death.
