The Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese, under the Province of the Anglican Church of Uganda, His Grace Reuben Bizarwenda Kisembo, has condemned practices of voter bribery, election rigging, and the alteration of results that allegedly marred the recently concluded NRM primaries.

Bishop Kisembo emphasised that such practices lead to the election of leaders who are unable to deliberate issues judiciously, thereby failing to deliver better services in their areas of jurisdiction.

The Bishop made the remarks on Monday, 25 August, during his official visit to St Stephen’s Church of Uganda, Kakunyu, which falls under Kazinga Parish, Karwenyi Archdeaconry, in Kyegegwa District.

Bishop Reuben Kisembo also criticised such practices, noting that they hinder development and prevent people from accessing the services they deserve, citing the dilapidated Kyenjojo–Kyegegwa–Mubende–Mityana road as an example.

Bishop Kisembo, who also decried excessive taxation, expressed concern that much of the taxpayers’ money in the country has been lost to corruption. He advised voters to elect God-fearing leaders in the forthcoming general elections.

However, before confirming 88 Christians into the Anglican faith through the laying on of hands, Bishop Reuben Kisembo praised President Museveni for his various initiatives aimed at improving the social life of Ugandans, while challenging Christians to embrace the four-acre model.

He also encouraged Christians to adopt family planning methods and promote good nutrition among children. However, he disagreed with the government’s policy of not providing any financial support in government schools, stressing that parents should supplement the efforts of the state.

However, during a sit-down with our reporter, some of the newly confirmed Christians expressed their joy, vowing to adhere strictly to the teachings they received and commending the Bishop for administering God’s work through their confirmation.
