The nomination of a National Unity Platform candidate Mworozi Stephen to contest on the LC5 seat Kyegegwa, remains in suspense after failing to acquire the mandatory signatures.
At exactly 09:00Pm of Friday the 05th of August this year, Mworozi Stephen was still at the nomination centre of the Independent Electoral Commission Kyegegwa located in Kyegegwa town council being aided by the EC staff to enter into the system the particulars of the voters who signed for him.
As required by the electoral guidelines, Mworozi Stephen was mandated to collect 650 signatures crafting him a task of getting 50 registered voters from each of the 13 subcounties, making two-thirds of the electoral areas in the district.
However, Mworozi after failing to secure the required signatures, he was advised by the district returning officer Kyegegwa Nicholas Asiimwe, to seek permission from the headquarters as he looks for more signatures and if granted, he can be nominated on 06th of August.
Mworozi attributed his failure of not being nominated, to lack of civic education especially to candidates by the Electoral Commission.
Before all this transpired, the Returning Officer Nicholas Asiimwe declared the NRM district flag bearer Kyegegwa, Norman Birungi as the fully nominated candidate.
Speaking to our reporter after being nominated, Norman Birungi convoyed by some of his supporters including Shaban Kamanyire the chairperson LCI Kamutuutu, stressed the need for equal service delivery if given mandate in the forthcoming election.
Other members declared by the returning officer as dully nominated candidates are, Turyamushemererwa Mandera vying for the district chairperson seat Kyegegwa on the FDC ticket including other members vying for the district councillorship position.
Upon their declarations, they immediately started mobilising for support in the 2026 general elections.
