In response to community concerns, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has extended its registration exercise to Kamusenene Parish in Bwizi Subcounty, Kamwenge District.

NIRA began a mass National Identity Card enrolment and renewal exercise in Uganda on 27 May 2025. The exercise includes registration for citizens with expired IDs, new registrations, and renewals. However, residents said the exercise was previously centralised at the sub-county headquarters, making it difficult for those in outlying areas, such as Kamusenene Parish, to access the service due to the long distance.

Bwizi Sub-county Chairperson Boaz Nyesingaomwe, alongside Godwin Tumuhimbise, the NRM flag bearer for Bwizi Sub-county district councillor, and other stakeholders who advocated for the extension, noted that residents have been struggling to travel to the sub-county.

They urged that NIRA’s decision to operate at the parish level would also speed up the exercise, as the overwhelming turn-out at the sub-county headquarters had been hampering the process.

During an interview with Kyaka FM, Godwin Tumuhimbise, popularly known as Mwine Murangira, encouraged residents of Kamusenene to turn out in large numbers and take advantage of the opportunity to register for their National IDs.

Meanwhile, area residents have commended the sub-county leadership and NRM flag bearers for heeding their concerns and taking swift action to address the long-standing challenge of accessing registration services.
