In a joint effort to combat environmental degradation, Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) in collaboration with the Tourism City Walkers and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Mountain Infantry Division, organized a tree-planting exercise at the Mountain Division Headquarters in Fort Portal.

The initiative aimed at reversing the negative impacts of deforestation and promoting a culture of environmental conservation within the Rwenzori sub-region.

Speaking during the exercise on Sunday the 09th of November, Colonel R.K. Seguya, the Division’s Operation and Training Officer (DOTO), welcomed the collaboration and commended the Tourism City Walkers for their commitment to environmental restoration. He urged them to extend their efforts beyond the barracks and into neighboring communities to inspire broader participation in greening the environment.

“This is a noble act of patriotism. Trees are life, and we must continue doing this not only here but across our communities,” said Col. Seguya.

“The spirit you have shown in preserving nature is commendable. Together, we can build a greener and more resilient Uganda,” Major Nomwesigwa stated.

The Tourism City Walkers, known for combining fitness with social and environmental action, pledged to continue working with institutions like the UPDF to create a cleaner, greener, and healthier Fort Portal City.

The tree-planting drive concluded with a pledge from all participants to maintain and monitor the planted trees to ensure their growth — a living symbol of unity and shared responsibility for the environment.
