In a bid to avert the climatic changes, Kyegegwa is set to restore the environment through tree planting

In a bid to avert the climatic changes mainly impacted by human activities in Kyegegwa district, Mpara town council, Nkanja and Ruyonza sub counties are set to benefit from the IFPA-CD project under the woodlot component.

The Investing in Forests and Protected Areas for Climate-Smart Development (IFPA-CD), project is led by the Government of Uganda with support from the World Bank and involves initiatives like community-based forest management, supporting communities in areas surrounding national parks, forest reserves and refugee settlements.

Speaking on Tuesday the 18th, November at the town council headquarters of Mpara, during an inception meeting that was attended by selected leaders from the beneficiary lower local government units, Nakyanzi Sefuroza the District Forestry Officer Kyegegwa also the project focal person, highlighted that the project has several components including agro-forestry that was fully implemented in sub counties of Hapuuyo, Kasule and Nkaakwa.

Nakyanzi who revealed that Eco-trust Uganda are the key implementers of the project, also admitted that the project will end in June next year though further monitoring and supervision will continue for a period of five years.

She also appealed to the intended beneficiaries from the selected sub counties (Parishes), to embrace the project for their own development

Muhindo Alex the project officer Kyegegwa revealed that they are set to plant 105 hectares appealing to residents from the selected sub counties to embrace tree planting.
