Students at Ntenugi Secondary School in Rwamwanja refugee settlement Kamwenge district are counting losses following a fire outbreak that gutted their dormitory on Tuesday night.

The eyewitnesses indicate that the incident happened during prep time at around 8pm on March 10, 2026, when students saw flames emerging from the boys’ dormitory.

Burnet Nuwagaba, the school head teacher, told our reporter on Thursday that the cause of fire has not been established yet. Authorities including Police have kicked off investigations into the matter, according to Nuwagaba.

He said no one was injured in the fire, since all the students were still attending prep revisions when the fire started.

However, he noted that a number of students’ property was reduced to ashes; these include mattresses, clothes, metallic cases, books, and beds, among others. The fire also caused extensive damage to the roof of the dormitory block.

Meanwhile, the school head teacher said they have started receiving some relief from well-wishers to support the situation.

He says that received items so far received, include mattresses, Basins, tins plus financial support.

The Police was yet to comment on the incident, but Nuwagaba said the school authorities are compiling a report to the ministry of Education for the further support.
