Alebtong resident district commissioner Robert Adiama has called on the church and the cultural institution to ensure that women are included in their leadership structures.

According to Adiama, women play very critical roles in shaping the society but they cannot achieve this goal if they are excluded from day to day running of the various institutions.

He was yesterday speaking during a belated women’s day celebration for Alebtong district which was held in Abia, Moroto county.

The international women’s day is celebrated on 8th March every year. In Uganda the national celebration was held in Kirihura district.

Mr. Adiama meanwhile asked girls to stay in a school and focus on their studies in a bid to become women of substance and contribute to the growth of the country.

Dickens Kennedy Odongo the Alebtong district LCV chairperson meanwhile observed that women in the rural communities are still faced with numerous challenges such as poverty and domestic violence.

To get women out of poverty, Odongo said they should be encouraged to actively participate in the parish development model, and to also join cooperatives.

Alebtong district woman member of parliament Dorcus Acen who also graced the occasion handed over a truck of sun flower seeds which was handed over to expectant mothers as well as sanitary pads for girls of school going ages.
