The ministry of local government has finally restored Amach sub county to its data base which means it shall effectively start receiving funding in the upcoming financial year.

Having lasted for over 50 years, Amach is one of the oldest and traditional sub counties in Lira district. However, the sub county went missing from the itinerary of local government following the creation of Amach town council.

Speaking during a council meeting held on 13th April 2023, Boniface Omara, the vice chairperson of Lira district disclosed that Amach sub county has been restored adding that the ministry of finance has announced shillings 24m as an indicative planning figure for the sub county.

It should however be noted that the electoral commission did not conduct any elections in Amach, this means that it will run without the chairperson LCIII, Councillors nor its representative to the district.

So, according to Boniface Omara, the district executive shall as per the local government Act stipulations appoint a political head to oversee the operations in Amach sub county.

Lira district LCV chairperson Richard Cox Max Okello Orik sys he is delighted that the central government on the several calls to have Amach sub county reinstated. Okello Orik said the community missed a lot on development projects as a result of the incongruity. The sub county disappeared from the government database in 2020
