Lira City, 21 October 2025 – A tragic road accident on the Lira-Kamdini highway in Kole District on 21 October 2025 at around 8:30 am has claimed four lives and left several others injured.
According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, North Kyoga Police publicist, a Fuso lorry, registration number UBP 253M, collided with a pickup truck, registration number UAG 766L, after the lorry attempted to overtake the pickup and encountered an oncoming vehicle.
Okema said the Fuso lorry was carrying sacks of beans, while the Baby Datsun pickup was loaded with sacks of rice and had passengers on board. Both vehicles were heading towards Lira City.
The accident resulted in the deaths of four people, including three adult males and one adult female, who died on the spot. Eight others were seriously injured and were rushed to Lira Referral Hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary at the same facility pending post-mortem examinations. The vehicles involved in the accident were impounded and taken to Kole Police Station.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, and no official cause has yet been determined. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Uganda, where recent statistics indicate that 14 people die daily in road accidents.
