The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Presidential Candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has promised to expedite the compensation of the remaining claimants in Nwoya district who were displaced during the construction of the Karuma Hydropower Dam.

General Museveni noted that the government has so far compensated UGX 11 billion out of the UGX 48 billion valued for the project-affected persons, adding that the remaining UGX 37 billion is among the top priorities of the NRM government in its next term of office.

He made the remarks during a campaign rally held at Anaka Primary School playground in Nwoya district.

Meanwhile, General Museveni also committed to ending human-wildlife conflict in Nwoya district by completing the construction of an electric fence around Murchison Falls National Park.

This commitment followed a concern raised by Mary Adokorach, the Nwoya district NRM Chairperson, who reported two recent deaths of people attacked by elephants from the park. In response, the NRM Presidential Candidate assured residents of the government’s plan to fast-track the completion of the electric fence.

The President further advised the people of Nwoya district not to wait for massive government projects before embracing wealth creation at the household level.

General Museveni cautioned the electorate in Nwoya district against following misleaders who, he said, are ignorant about leadership and development matters.

He highlighted success stories from remote parts of the country, where individuals have embraced the government’s wealth creation programs and transformed their livelihoods.

During his address, the NRM Presidential Candidate reminded the electorate of Nwoya how the NRM government ended insurgencies and the displacement of people from IDP camps, paving the way for peace, growth, and development in the area.

On the basis of these achievements, General Museveni rallied the people of Nwoya district to grant him another term of office to consolidate the progress made under the NRM government.
