A Year of Leadership: Lango Celebrates Paramount Chief Okune’s Coronation Anniversary

Lira City-The Lango community is set to celebrate the 1st anniversary of Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune’s coronation as the Paramount Chief of Lango on November 2, 2025. According to Joseph Obote Otiti, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, and Patrick Okullo Okeng, Minister for Information, the event will be a grand celebration of the chief’s leadership and vision for the Lango sub-region.

The coronation ceremony was initially scheduled for November 2, 2024, and marked a significant milestone in the Lango chiefdom.

According to Patrick Okullo Okeng,the commemoration event will take place at the foot of Otuke hills where Lango is believed to have first settled after their migration from Abbysinia in Ethiopia.

Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune was elected as the Paramount Chief of Lango on March 1, 2024, and was gazetted by the Government of Uganda on November 2, 2024. He has been instrumental in promoting cultural rejuvenation and reconciliation in the Lango sub-region
