Hailstorm destroys crops in Oyam district

Farmers in Oyam District are counting losses following a heavy downpour accompanied by a hailstorm that destroyed several crop gardens.

The affected farmers are in Juma Parish, Kamdini Sub-county, where the severe weather hit on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, devastating crops across six villages.

Carolyn Akoth, a tomato farmer in Onea A Village, said the hailstorm destroyed her four acres of tomatoes, in which she had invested millions of shillings.

Meanwhile, Richard Ekuka, the LC One Chairperson of Juma Village, said many households in his village are now facing hunger as their staple food crops have been completely destroyed.
