As this year’s Women’s Day celebration draws closer, Agago district is seeking to raise more than 20 million shillings to support the event’s organisation.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 each year. However, Agago district has scheduled its celebrations for March 13, 2025.
Paska Adong, the Gender Officer for Agago district, stated that as the event approaches, the district is still struggling with financial challenges to organise the day. She noted that the 3 million shillings usually sent by the ministry to each district has yet to be disbursed.
Last year, Agago district spent more than 25 million shillings on organising the International Women’s Day celebrations.
Alal Rijina, the Women’s Leader of Agago District, confirmed the financial constraints and stated that they have reached out to various development partners for support. However, they have yet to receive any feedback that offers them hope.
The Agago District Women’s Day celebration will take place at Agengo subcounty, with Prime Minister Hon. Robinah Nabbanja expected to grace the occasion.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration is “Accelerate Action.” This theme underscores the urgency of making faster and more effective strides toward gender equality.
