As Uganda heads into the general elections come January 2026, a number of strategies have been put in place by the top district NRM leadership of Kyegegwa reportedly all aimed at ensuring the NRM Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, gets a higher percentage compared to the 2021 elections.
In 2021 elections, Yoweri Museveni in Kyegegwa district garnered 69,129 votes that constituted 84.79% while Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert who wanted to dislodge Museveni including other 09 candidates, polled 10,656 constituting 13.07%.
Since then, a number of interventions on how to increase the percentage spearheaded by the NRM district leadership, were put in place including publicising of government programs, improved health services, construction of roads and schools among others.

In a harmonisation meeting organised by the NRM district chairperson Kyegegwa, held on Tuesday the 04th of November at the district headquarters that was attended by both NRM chairperson at parish and subcounty level, NRM district councilor flag bearers, members of the NRM district executive committee and NRM Members of Parliament flag bearers, Byaboona informed the delegates that another strategy resolved by the top NRM organ of the district, was that all NRM members of Parliament flag bearers teaming up all together with the NRM district executive committee members in mobilising support for the NRM Presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni and all other NRM flag bearers in the entire district, by moving from one constituency to another.
According to Byaboona, the strategy was to exhibit unity and cooperation among the NRM leaders, a move that was slashed by majority of the delegates
However, the NRM members rejected the proposal insisting that all flag bearers should move on their own in their respective constituencies, though they all agreed that Museveni should be mobilised for support.
The area Member of Parliament also the NRM Flag bearer for Kyaka South in Kyegegwa district, Hon Minister Jackson Kafuuzi Karugaba who also attended the meeting, asked the members to remain calm adding that they were to hold another high profile meeting and decide on the strategy.
Meanwhile, the NRM Members of Parliament flag bearers who include Hon Tom Bright for Kyaka central, Kyogabirwe Jackie Muganda for Kyegegwa district and Vincent Freedom Kaheeru for Kyaka North, all expressed their dissatisfaction over the blocked move adding that it was cost effective.
In an interface with journalist after the meeting, Byaboona insisted that he can’t be diverted as he vowed to continue with his earlier arrangement, amidst being blocked by the members during the meeting.
