Okra is mainly known as lady’s fingers, and it is flowering plant in the mallow family grown in the tropical, sub-tropical and warm temperature regions around the world. Okra has edible seedpods.

Okra is a very important food, a mild tasting vegetable that produces a thick juice to enrich sauces. it is a plant with 1000 health benefits; it has very low calories, rich in vitamin C , vitamin K which helps the body to clot blood. Okra also   contains antioxidants which help to fight cancer and many more.

In Uganda, Okra is a common grown in the Northern and western part of Uganda. However, Farmers in Bukalabi, Nakaseke District have resorted to growing this miracle Plant for health benefits alongside other crops like Matoke, maize and Beans to increase on their household income.

Nakaseke Radio visited Talemwa Okra growing Farm in Bukalabi to hear from their experiences on growing Okra. Through Talemwa , farmers have started adding value to Okra through processing to powder and pack and sell finished products to Supermarkets in Kampala.
