How elderly persons in Nakaseke spend their monthly allowances

Explaining how she uses her SAGE money

Old persons in Nakaseke District have received their monthly living allowance from the government of Uganda. The funds are from the SAGE program under the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

The SAGE fund was designed to support the elderly from the age of 8o years and above. Each month they receive a total of 25,000/= however since it is little money  sometimes it is paid to them on a quarterly basis.

Today, elderly persons flocked the subcounty and town councils to receive their allowances. Nasitansia Namisango is one of the beneficially of this program and when asked if this money is helpful to her she replied “yes this money has helped me very well, I use the money to hire people to plant for me some food like cassava and sweet potatoes and also use some of it buy soap”.

Zahara Namukasa the Community Development Officer (CDO) for Nakaseke Town Council also clarified that the money has helped so many elderly persons to survive. Many use such money to buy basic needs like soap, paraffine, drugs and sugar.
