According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the incident occurred on 20 April 2025 at around 1:00 p.m. Kiconco was found hanging from the dormitory ceiling, with a rope tied around her neck and fastened to a wooden beam in the roof.
A sombre atmosphere has enveloped Solberga College School in Kabale municipality following the tragic death of a 21-year-old Senior Six student, who is suspected to have died by suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Nikita Kiconco.
According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, the incident occurred on 20 April 2025 at around 1:00 p.m. Kiconco was found hanging from the dormitory ceiling, with a rope tied around her neck and fastened to a wooden beam in the roof.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on Friday, 18 April 2025, several students from the school left for the Easter holiday, leaving behind approximately 60 students, including Kiconco.
On Easter Sunday, the students attended prayers at Nyabikoni Church of Uganda at around 10:30 a.m. Kiconco and one other student reportedly stayed behind, with Kiconco stating she was not feeling well and was on medication.
Tragically, upon returning from church at around 1:00 p.m., the students discovered her body in the dormitory.
Police were alerted, and the body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination, as investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Maate expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged institutions, parents, and guardians to offer psychosocial support and closely monitor the emotional well-being of young people.
