Man arrested for allegedly killing wife in Kabale domestic violence incident

Police in Kabale district have arrested Andrew Mugabe for the alleged murder of his wife, Donatele Mukandayisenga, also known as Shantari, in what authorities describe as a case of domestic violence.

According to a police statement issued by Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred on 10th May 2025 at around 10:00 a.m. in Mayengo cell, Kiniogo ward, Katuna town council, Kabale district.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a domestic quarrel broke out between Mugabe and his wife, during which the suspect allegedly struck her on the head with a metallic bar, rendering her unconscious.

Mukandayisenga, a Rwandan national residing in Uganda, was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Andrew Mugabe is currently being held at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations continue.  

Elly Maate condemned the act and called on members of the public to resolve domestic disputes through peaceful and lawful means, warning against the rising trend of domestic violence.
