Three dead, several others injured in Rukungiri-Ntungamo road accident

The deceased have been identified as Danison Agirabyona, 38, a resident of Kajara County in Ntungamo District, and two other individuals whose identities are yet to be confirmed.

Three people have died and several others sustained serious injuries following a fatal road accident along the Rukungiri–Ntungamo road in Rwabigangura Cell, Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District.

According to a police statement released by Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the accident occurred on Monday, 19th May 2025, at approximately 8:22 a.m.

The deceased have been identified as Danison Agirabyona, 38, a resident of Kajara County in Ntungamo District, and two other individuals whose identities are yet to be confirmed.

The victims who sustained severe injuries are Apollo Ruhangariho, Gift Nahurira, and an unspecified number of others. They are currently receiving medical treatment at Nyakibale Hospital and various private clinics in both Rukungiri and Ntungamo districts.

The crash involved a Toyota Hiace (PSV) taxi, registration number UBJ 330Y, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFH 694X.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle, which was carrying two passengers and traveling from Rukungiri town toward Ntungamo, veered from its lane and collided with the oncoming vehicle.

All three motorcycle occupants died on the spot.

Maate confirmed that the deceased bodies have been taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
