Two security guards arrested for attempted murder in Mbarara

Police in Mbarara City South Division have arrested two security guards in connection with an attempted murder by shooting, which left a local businessman seriously injured.

According to Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira, the suspects have been identified as Marvin Nabimanya, 17, and Samuel Amutaire, 22, both employees of Legit Security Company Ltd, based in Ibanda District.

The victim, 32-year-old businessman Brian Barigye, a resident of Karugangama Cell, Katete Ward, Mbarara City South Division, was attacked on Easter Monday, April 20, 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM, at his business premises. According to a police report released on April 25, 2025, Barigye and some colleagues noticed the two suspects loitering near the area.

Nabimanya, who was armed with a firearm, reportedly became hostile when questioned about their presence and shot Barigye, leaving him critically injured.

Barigye was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The suspects were apprehended on April 22, 2025. The firearm used in the shooting, a SAR rifle with serial number UG.PSO 564211869-16588, was recovered from a third party named Derrick and is now in police custody as evidence.
