The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has launched a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO) aimed at economically empowering garage workers in the Mbarara City South constituency.
While addressing the launch over the weekend, Tayebwa expressed his gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for supporting the formation of the SACCO. He urged members to take a long-term approach and reinvest profits rather than distribute dividends, in order to enable the group to grow sustainably.
“Instead of sharing profits, they should reinvest them to help the SACCO expand. With strong leadership and a solid growth trajectory, the group will attract more supporters over time,” he said.
He also praised the garage workers for their decision to join the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, highlighting that their support would strengthen the party’s influence in Mbarara City ahead of the 2026 elections.
Tayebwa further commended Mbarara City South MP, Hon. Mwine Mpaka, for his efforts in mobilising the garage workers and facilitating the formation of the SACCO.
“Both inside and outside Parliament, he has proven to be an exemplary leader—dedicated to fulfilling his legislative duties while steadfastly supporting his constituents,” Tayebwa remarked.
The initiative is expected to enhance financial security and foster business development among garage workers in the region.
