The Lira District Local Government has earmarked over UGX 200 million for infrastructural improvements at Amac Health Centre IV, located in Erute South County.
According to Bony Omara, the Vice Chairperson LCV of Lira district, a total of UGX 220 million has been allocated for the construction of twin staff houses and general renovation of existing structures at the facility.
Omara revealed that the District Executive Committee (DEC), together with the health committee, had initially proposed that the funds be used to upgrade the theatre facility and equip it with the necessary surgical instruments. Additionally, part of the funds was earlier suggested for the fencing of Aromo Health Centre III in Erute North County to enhance security and service delivery.
However, after further deliberations, the district council resolved to focus the funding on improving staff accommodation and renovating the existing buildings at Amac Health Centre IV.
Meanwhile, Moris Adem, the Speaker of Lira District Council, said the decision will significantly improve service delivery at Amac Health Centre IV, provided the funds are properly utilised.
Adem emphasised that many of the facility’s structures, including staff houses and wards, are currently in a dilapidated state. He added that a recent surgical health camp exposed the poor condition of the facility compared to other Health Centre IVs in the Lango subregion, which prompted the council to prioritise the renovations.
