A grader breakdown has delayed the rehabilitation of a 9-kilometer impassable road in Agali Sub-County, Lira District, despite its inclusion in the 2024/2025 financial year budget.
Residents have expressed frustration over the deteriorating road conditions, which they say are hindering effective service delivery in the area. The road in question connects Agali Seed Secondary School through Agali Primary School and Ocamo-nyang Trading Centre to the border with Awei Sub-County in Alebtong District.
According to Alex Okello, the Agali Sub-County Chairperson, the road is in a deplorable state and urgently needs attention to ease movement and access to essential services.
In response, Bonny Omara, the Leader of Government Business and Vice Chairperson for Lira District, confirmed that over 300 kilometers of roads—including the Agali route—were budgeted for in the current financial year. However, he noted that progress was hampered by a grader breakdown that occurred a month ago.
Omara assured the public that the grader has since been repaired, and road works are expected to resume within two weeks.
Omara further stated that should the planned works not be completed within this financial year, the district will continue the project in the next fiscal year. He emphasized that funds for fuel have already been allocated and deposited at the fuel station.
