Over five farmer groups across the Lango sub-region have gained practical skills in managing poultry and piggery farming, thanks to a training organized by Tunga Nutrition Uganda Limited.
The one-day training, held at Apostolic Social Center in Lira City, attracted farmer groups as well as individual farmers engaged in poultry and piggery enterprises.
Dr. Kenneth Rogers Kawooya, the Regional Northern and Eastern Manager for Tunga Nutrition Uganda Limited, told our reporter in an exclusive interview that the training aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods by equipping them with practical farm management skills.
Dr. Kawooya noted that the company discovered that many farmer groups in the Lango sub-region still lack essential knowledge on how to manage their farms, which often leads to financial losses.
Fredrick Okello, one of the facilitators from Tunga Nutrition Uganda Limited, emphasized that many farmer groups in the region fail to progress because they venture into farming without first acquiring the necessary skills.
He added that with proper training, farmers can greatly improve their livelihoods and fight poverty, since many tend to neglect key farming principles.
Okullo Tom Richard of Odong-Paco Group from Amuca Ward in Lira City, Pamela Okello from Obanga-Omaro-Wa Saving Group in Aler Sub-county, Lira District, and Kerren Alami from Can Omia-Diro Group expressed joy over the knowledge gained from the training.
They admitted that before the training, they lacked vital information about poultry and piggery farming. They are now optimistic that the new skills will help them fight poverty and improve their livelihoods.
