More than 7,000 freehold land titles have been issued to vulnerable communities in Oyam and Apac districts under the Systematic Land Adjudication and Certification (SLAC) program, a project funded by the World Bank.

The update was shared by Mr. Okae Julius Peter, the Officer in Charge of the Ministry of Lands Zonal Office in Lira, during an exclusive interview with Radio Wa News Desk.

According to Mr. Okae, between March and August 2025, the SLAC project successfully delivered the first batch of titles. The initiative aims to enhance land tenure security for vulnerable populations by issuing legally recognized land ownership documents free of charge.

He explained that during the first phase, the project surveyed approximately 34,000 land titles in Oyam and Apac. The second phase saw an additional 60,000 parcels of land surveyed. Out of the total, about 7,000 land titles have already been processed and issued to beneficiaries.

Okae said the remaining 20,000 titles are currently at the Data Processing Centre in Entebbe. Once finalized, they will be forwarded to the Ministry Zonal Office in Lira for distribution.

Launched in 2013, the SLAC project initially covered five districts but was later expanded to 16, with Oyam and Apac as the beneficiaries from the Lango sub-region. The program is part of a broader effort to streamline land ownership, reduce land disputes, and support economic development through secure land tenure.
