The Dokolo District Education Department has unveiled plans to construct classroom blocks and toilet facilities in selected community and government-aided schools in the 2025/2026 fiscal year, in a bid to boost education and hygiene standards across the district.
The development was confirmed by Mr. Okuja Santos, the Secretary for Health and Education, in a telephone interview with our reporter. Okuja noted that all planned infrastructure projects for the 2024/2025 financial year have been successfully completed.
Okuja, who also represents Kangai Town Council, said that school management committees and head teachers are always notified prior to the start of rehabilitation works, so that arrangements can be made to relocate learners to safe and conducive environments, avoiding disruption to their education.
Among the schools benefiting in FY 2025/2026 are: Abur Community Primary School in Dokolo Town Council – Construction of a new classroom block, Ayira Community School in Dokolo Sub-county – Construction of toilet facilities, Angai Primary School – Construction of a two-classroom block and office, Amatiburu Primary School – Construction of a four-classroom block and Kachung and Atabu Primary Schools – Completion of ongoing infrastructure projects.
Mr. Okuja also issued a warning to parents against keeping children at home during the rainy season, especially as third term is set to resume next week. He confirmed that teachers have already returned to school, complete with schemes of work and lesson plans, and urged local leaders to play their part in ensuring learners report back to school.
