Lango forms 11 committees to host 2026 USSSA national boys football championship

As preparations intensify for the forthcoming Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Boys Football Championship, the Local Organizing Committee in Lango has constituted 11 committees to coordinate the event.

The national competition is scheduled to run from 10th to 20th May 2026, with Lira Town College serving as the main host venue.

Addressing the media, Mr. Ogwal Denis, Chairperson of USSSA in charge of Lango Sub-region, said the committees will manage various aspects of the tournament, including budgeting and sourcing sponsorship to ensure adequate funding.

Ogwal, who also serves as Head Teacher of Bata Secondary School, called upon the business community and the general public to provide financial and material support to guarantee a successful championship.

The committees formed include; accommodation and reception, welfare, Water and Electricity, Health and Sanitation, Finance, Transport, Safety and Security, Protocol and Entertainment, Procurement and Publications, among others

Mr. Abongo Levi, Head Teacher of Lira Town College, revealed that a letter dated January 4th, 2026, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports outlined critical areas the host school must prioritize.

These include adequate accommodation within the school premises, at least 10 well-maintained football pitches, proper sanitation and safe water at all venues, availability of medical personnel, and guaranteed safety for players and officials.

Abongo assured the public that more than 75 percent of the required standards have already been met, demonstrating strong progress in preparations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Obura Kenneth Light, the Organizing Secretary and Public Relations Officer, appealed to media houses to spearhead massive mobilization efforts to rally public support for what he described as a historic event for Lango.

He also encouraged the business community to prepare their facilities to accommodate and serve the anticipated influx of visitors.

Several schools have been confirmed as hosting venues for the championship matches, including; St Catherine Girls Secondary School, Dr. Obote College Boroboro, Erute Primary School and Ireda Primary School.

Others are; Anai Primary School, Lango College, Ambalal Primary School,Adye primary school, Mentor Secondary School, Lira Primary School and the main host, Lira Town College.

With structured committees in place and preparations well underway, Lango Sub-region is positioning itself to successfully host the prestigious USSSA National Boys Football Championship.
