The Otuke District LC5 Chairperson, Francis Abola, has cautioned health workers against charging patients for services at government health facilities.

Abola made the remarks in an exclusive interview with our reporter following the delivery of a portable digital X-ray machine to Orum Health Centre IV on Thursday, June 5, by the Ministry of Health. The new equipment is expected to significantly improve diagnostic services in the region.

He clarified that the machine was not donated by any politician but is part of a national rollout targeting 15 health facilities across the country. In the Lango sub-region, only Otuke and Amola-tar districts were selected to benefit from the initiative.

Abola noted that Orum Health Centre IV is now serving patients from neighboring districts such as Alebtong, Abim, and Agago, thanks to the facility’s expanded services that now resemble those of a referral hospital.

The Chairperson issued a stern warning to health workers who may attempt to charge for the X-ray services, which are meant to be offered free of charge. He urged them to maintain professionalism and serve patients with dignity and solidarity.

Abola further stated that while most health workers are conducting themselves professionally, a few individuals suspected of misconduct are being monitored and will be identified in due course.

He expressed optimism that the new X-ray equipment marks a major milestone in improving health service delivery in Otuke and the surrounding communities.
