Lira District Local Government has allocated over 90 million shillings for the construction of a new classroom block at Baroganda Primary School in Agweng Sub-county.
The Vice Chairperson of Lira District, Bonny Omara, confirmed the development today in a private interview with Radio Wa. Omara, who also serves as the Leader of Government Business, said 92 million shillings has been earmarked for the project.
He revealed that Baroganda Primary School, formerly a community-run school, was recently granted government-aided status by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The school now has a population of over 700 learners, many of whom are currently studying under trees or in makeshift structures.
Omara emphasized that the construction of a permanent classroom block aims to ease the burden of inadequate learning spaces and improve the learning environment.
He further disclosed that the district has tasked the leadership of Agweng Sub-county with mobilizing resources for the construction of toilets and the provision of desks for the learners, as the school still lacks essential infrastructure, qualified teaching staff, and scholastic materials.
Baroganda Primary School is one of the latest community schools to be taken over by the government, marking a significant step in improving access to quality education in rural areas.
