Plans to have land boundaries opened in Kasese have been finalized

Surveyors from the Ministry of lands, Housing and Urban development have finalized plans to have land boundaries opened in the disputed land of Nkoko in Kitswamba Sub-County Kasese district.

The land that formerly belonged to Uganda People’s defense forces-UPDF, part of it was allocated to cattle keepers by government.

For the last ten years farmers in Nkoko have been complaining that cattle keepers are allegedly occupying the land beyond 3500 acres allocated to them by UPDF, requesting the ministry to re-survey the land and demarcate boundaries to avoid encroachment on cultivators land.

Mr. Sam Okiria, a lead surveyor said since the reopening exercise of boundaries between UPDF, UWA and Railway is complete, he will submit a report to government.

Mr. Jackson Kazini Kadungu, the Chairperson LC1 Kayanja-Nkoko village in Hima Parish calls for security presence during the exercise to ensure peace and harmony among the two parties.

Kasese Deputy RDC in charge of Busongora County, Mr. Zepher Mubingwa, said  the exercise was set to dermcate land boundaries, but not evicting any person from land.

Mr. Ibrahim Rujumba, a farmer’s representative in Nkoko was confident that with the intervention of lands Ministry, land conflicts in the area will be solved. END.
