Two suspected poachers in Kasese remanded until 13th.Jan.2023

Chief magistrate her worship Betty Ajok has remanded two Suspected poachers in Kasese district after taking plea of Guilty.

Kasese Chief Magistrates Court has Remanded two suspected Poachers until 13th January, 2023 after taking plea of Guilty, Kasese guide radio has learnt.

Court Presided over by the Chief magistrate her worship Betty Ajok heard that while in Queen Elizabeth National park in Kasese district on 4th January, 2023 the suspected Poachers committed two counts of illegally entering protected area and killing wild life animals.

While appearing before the chief magistrate for the first time yesterday, the suspects, Mr. Edson Luhala and Mr. John Muhindo pleaded Guilty for having killed a Hippopotamus asking for forgiveness.

State Prosecutor Counsel Oundo Geoffrey asked for Heavy Punishment, saying pleading Guilty is not enough since the offense attracts Life sentence and the Wild animal killed earn a lot of revenue to government.

Speaking to Our Reporter shortly after court session the lawyer to the a cussed, Counsel Luke Kanyonyi from Kanyonyi and Co. advocates  said since the accused are First offenders and they have  pleaded guilty, court should give them a lesser sentence.

Counsel Kanyonyi also told Court that John Muhindo wife died after the arrest of her husband and left a young baby now under care at Bridge for peace Orphanage Centre Diocese of Kasese while the remaining eight orphans need his care. Counsel Kanyonyi speaking……

Kanyonyi called for calm since the matter is before court.
