4 cultivators suspected to have injured cattle have been released

The four cultivators who were arrested for allegedly injuring cattle that were reportedly destroying crops in their gardens have been released from police custody in Katwe Division as part of ongoing efforts to foster peaceful coexistence between cultivators and cattle keepers in Munkunyu, Nyakatonzi and Nyakiyumbu subcounties in Kasese District.

The Chairperson of Local Council III for Munkunyu Sub-county, Mr. Isaac Kabunzu Ndyoka, confirmed the development yesterday, saying the release followed a recent meeting involving security officials and district leaders aimed at finding lasting solutions to the recurring conflicts between the two groups.

Mr. Ndyoka urged both parties to adhere to the resolutions reached during the meeting, which prohibit attacks on livestock and instead require aggrieved residents to report such cases to the police.

He also called on cattle keepers to maintain only the number of animals they can adequately feed and manage in order to minimize disputes and promote harmony within the community.

Mr. Ndyoka further urged both cultivators and cattle keepers to prepare for uncertainties such as drought and heavy rainfall to ensure that their activities do not negatively affect their neighbors.

He emphasized the need for proper planning and responsible resource management as key measures for promoting peaceful coexistence within the community.
