Assistant RDC has condemned discrimination based on religion.
The Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Kasese, Mr. Henry Kabiriri, has condemned discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, and race, describing it as an outdated practice that undermines social cohesion, peace, and development.
Speaking at the launch of the Uganda First Cultural Patriotic Team Pan-Africanism initiative in Saluti B Cell in Kasese Municipality yesterday, Mr. Kabiriri urged local residents to prioritize education, income generation, good health, improved livelihoods and peaceful coexistence instead of engaging in divisive practices that fuel conflicts within communities.
The Project Director, Mr. Robert Muhindo Tibamwenda, said the programme goes beyond promoting the “Uganda First” slogan by promoting urban-based income-generating activities, including fish farming, poultry keeping, and soap making, to demonstrate that such enterprises are not limited to rural areas but can also thrive in towns and contribute to household incomes.
The Kasese Municipality Secretary for Works, Technical Services and Natural Resources, Hon. Jolly Biira Muthanjyi, hailed local for the savings culture but expressed concern over accountability gaps in some SACCOs, saying a lack of transparency by some leaders is undermining members’ confidence.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Ms. Night Kendrew and Ms. Sharron Muhindo, commended the project leadership for equipping them with practical skills and providing start-up support to enable them to establish income-generating projects.
As part of the initiative, the Uganda First Cultural Patriotic Team Pan-Africanism, in partnership with the Rwenzori Farmers Association for Rural Development, donated more than 600 day-old chicks to 25 households in Saluti B Cell, Nyamwamba Division.
