Court grants non-cash bail to vulnerable 45-year-old man

The Kasese Chief Magistrate’s Court has granted non-cash bail of Shs500,000 to 45-year-old vulnerable man, Mr Yofesi Masereka, who is accused of assaulting a police officer.

The court, presided over by His Worship Faisal Ngamije, heard that on 14 July 2026, while at Kihara Road Cell in Kasese Municipality, Mr Masereka allegedly assaulted a police officer identified as Simon Masereka.

The court also accepted two sureties: Mr Richard Muke, a resident of Kizungu Cell, and Mr Philemon Sibanza, a resident of Kihara Road Cell. Each surety was granted a non-cash bond of Shs2 million.

State Prosecutor Counsel Oundo Godfrey told the court yesterday that he had no objection to the bail application, taking into consideration the vulnerability of the suspect. However, he advised Mr Masereka to seek forgiveness from the police officer.

Speaking to our reporter shortly after the court session, the Executive Director of Kasese Youth Link, Mr Ronald Kato, called for mediation rather than pursuing the matter through the courts.

Kato also commended the court for granting bail to the vulnerable Ugandan.
