The Kasese District Disaster Committee Chairperson, Mr. Mustafa Kikusa, has renewed calls for residents living in disaster-prone areas in the district to temporarily relocate to safer places as the rainy season continues.
Addressing residents at Kinyabisiki Roman Catholic Church in Kyondo Sub-county yesterday, Mr. Kikusa warned that anticipated heavy rains could trigger floods and landslides in some parts of the district, putting lives and property at risk.
He said the district leadership would also take action against human activities that threaten the environment and increase communities’ vulnerability to disasters.
Meanwhile, the Kasese District Senior Agricultural Officer, Mr. Johnson Mwesige Sabuni, urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children during this rainy season, particularly as they travel to and from school, to protect them from potential disasters.
In a related development, Action Against Hunger, through the WAHAFA project and with support from German Humanitarian Assistance, has donated a large emergency tent at Kinyabisiki Roman Catholic Church in Kyondo Sub-county to provide temporary shelter for people affected by disasters.
