NUP and PFF leaders clash over candidates.

The National Unity Platform Regional Coordinator, Hon. Jackson Mbaju Kathika, has dismissed as “a blatant lie” claims by the People’s Front for Freedom chairperson, Mzee Saulo Maate, that NUP reneged on an agreement to back the PFF candidate after the death of Mzee Gad Mbayahi Bakwanamaha.

Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio in Kasese Municipality yesterday, Hon. Kathika said that following Mzee Mbayahi’s death, NUP members were left to individually support candidates of their choice the reason he personally backed FDC’s Geoffrey Bigogo instead of PFF’s Abdu Saad because he believed Mr. Bigogo had stronger and more reliable support.

Hon. Kathika further urged Mzee Saulo to distinguish between individual decisions and official party positions, warning against what he described as misleading statements that could confuse the public.

Hon. Kathika, the former Busongora County South Member of Parliament, maintained that the opposition would have better chances of winning the upcoming LC1 and LC2 elections if it rallied behind a single candidate in each village.
