Uganda Martyrs Nyakasanga p.s in Kasese Municipality reports a case of child abuse.
The leadership of Uganda Martyrs Nyakasanga Primary School in Kasese Municipality has appealed to well-wishers, child rights advocates, and human rights defenders to urgently intervene in the plight of a female pupil whose education and wellbeing are reportedly under threat due to alleged mistreatment by her paternal aunt.
The school head teacher, Madam Imelda Mabunda, identified the learner as Hellen Biira and described her situation as deeply concerning.
According to Ms. Mabunda, the young girl is allegedly subjected to excessive domestic labor, denied adequate care, and at times forced to sleep hungry despite her strong commitment to education.
Ms. Mabunda further revealed that Hellen’s circumstances are made even more distressing by the fact that she does not know her biological parents and is under the care of an aunt whose identity has yet to be established.
She alleged that the guardian is often displeased whenever members of the community offer food or support to the child, raising concerns about the girl’s welfare and future.
Speaking to our reporter from her designated accommodation at the school yesterday, Hellen said her situation worsened when her aunt’s husband reportedly began showing concern for her welfare, citing her hard work, respectful character, and good academic performance.
