NRM and opposition political parties express their readiness for the forthcoming local council elections
A section of leaders from the NRM and opposition political parties in Kasese District have expressed readiness to participate fully in the forthcoming Local Council I, Local Council II, and Women’s Council elections slated for July and August 2026.
Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio at his offices in Kasese Town on last evening, Mr. Selevano Mulhondi, the Kasese Municipal NRM chairperson, urged his party grassroots mobilizers to intensify voter mobilization efforts, noting that the party is fully prepared for the polls and that all its prospective candidates are ready to contest for success.
However, Mr. Ronald Kabuku, the Kasese District Chairperson of the Forum for Democratic Change, criticized the Electoral Commission over what he described as a rushed voter register display exercise, arguing that the process could disadvantage opposition parties and limit effective participation in the elections.
Addressing journalists yesterday, Electoral Commission Chairperson, Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, revealed that the electoral programme will commence on July 6 with the verification and registration of village residents and conclude with the election of village chairpersons on July 28th and Parish Chairpersons on August 10, 2026.
