Parents, guardians of Kasese Primary School urged to attend PTA meetings regularly

Poor parental attendance at PTA meetings in Kasese Municipality raises concern

The low turnout of parents and guardians at PTA meetings at Kasese P7 School in Kasese Municipality requires urgent intervention from various stakeholders if academic performance is to improve, the school’s head teacher, Ms Allen Nkabafunzaki, has said.

Ms Nkabafunzaki expressed concern that, on several occasions, PTA meetings have been postponed due to poor attendance by parents and guardians, despite prior notification.

Speaking to our reporter yesterday shortly after a PTA meeting, the visibly disappointed head teacher called for the intervention of the school’s foundation body and political leaders to address the growing trend, which she said is affecting the smooth running of the school. She noted that only about 15 per cent of parents usually attend PTA meetings.

Meanwhile, the PTA Chairperson, Mr Jerome Sibitsomwa, observed that some parents spend money on expensive clothes, meat, alcohol and other luxuries instead of paying school fees and providing their children with the necessary scholastic materials.

Mr Honest Tugeineyo, one of the few parents who attended the meeting, urged fellow parents to cooperate with schools and support their children’s education by providing lunch, school dues and scholastic materials to promote academic excellence.
