There is a poor attendance parents and guardians to PTA meetings in Kasese Municipality.

The low turnout of parents and guardians at PTA meetings at Kasese P7 School in Kasese Municipality requires urgent intervention from different stakeholders if academic performance is to improve, the school’s head teacher, Ms. Allen Nkabafunzaki, has said.

Parents reporting for PTA meeting

Ms. Nkabafunzaki expressed concern that on several occasions, PTA meetings have been postponed due to the poor attendance of parents and guardians, despite being notified in advance.

Speaking to our reporter yesterday shortly after the PTA meeting, the visibly disappointed head teacher called for the intervention of the school’s foundation board and political leaders to address the growing trend, which is affecting the smooth operation of the school. She noted that only about 15 percent of parents usually attend PTA meetings.

Meanwhile, the PTA Chairperson, Mr. Jerome Sibitsomwa, observed that some parents spend money on expensive clothes, meat, alcohol, and other luxuries instead of paying school fees and providing their children with the necessary scholastic materials.

Mr. Honest Tugeineyo, one of the few parents who attended the meeting, urged fellow parents to cooperate with schools and support their children’s education by providing lunch, school dues, and scholastics to promote academic excellence.
