Farmers asked to use renewable technologies to protect the environment

Farmer  emphasized to adopt energy technologies to improve on their products market.

Ms. Silvia Mukasa Nakanyike, a member of the Board of the Advocacy Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture, has urged farmers to embrace renewable energy technologies as a means of improving household energy access and enhancing the marketability of their agricultural products.

Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio shortly after a three-day training at Rural Family Care Farm in Kanyatsi Cell, Kinyamaseke Town Council, last weekend, Ms. Nakanyike called on selected community champions to adopt and promote renewable energy innovations under regenerative agriculture.

These include solar power, biogas production, and animal waste recycling technologies, which she said can help conserve the environment while increasing agricultural productivity and farmers’ incomes.

Mr. Francis Baita, Executive Director of Rural Family Care, said the training was aimed at equipping local farmers with practical skills to maximize the use of available resources and sustain crop production throughout the year without degrading the environment by promoting environmentally friendly farming practices.

Meanwhile, the Kasese District Agro Tourism member and farmer, Mrs. Jovia Nzukwa Mbambu, urged the trained farmers to promote production of organic crops that not only protects consumers’ health and the environment but also creates opportunities for attracting tourists interested in sustainable agriculture and authentic farm experiences.

Mrs. Jovia Nzukwa asked fellow farmers to embrace using free chemical application in farming for their only good.

The multi-stakeholder engagement and training programme is being implemented under the Advocacy Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture in partnership with Power for Food, with coordination support from SNV and the IKEA Foundation.
