Parents and guardians cautioned against neglecting children’s education

Kasese District Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Ms Justine Mutabazi Muhindo, has cautioned parents and guardians against neglecting education, warning that there can be no meaningful inheritance for children if investment in schooling is ignored.

Her remarks followed a call by Pastor Godwin Kabanzi of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the Rwenzori Field, who urged leaders and community members to embrace hard work, invest in education, uphold strong moral values, and practise financial discipline as a means of building lasting legacies.

Addressing education stakeholders during the commissioning of a four-classroom block at Minana Government Aided Primary School in Buhihira Sub-county, Kasese District on Tuesday, Ms Justine Mutabazi Muhindo identified poverty, poor parenting, and inadequate provision of school necessities as key drivers of absenteeism, truancy, lateness, school dropouts, and poor academic performance among learners.

She warned that such challenges not only undermine the quality of education but also contribute to rising indiscipline and lawlessness in many communities.

She further cautioned parents and members of the public against child neglect, as well as what she described as parental laziness and idleness, saying these are among the key drivers of slow development within communities.
