It was a matter of survival of the fastest as police fired into the air to disperse a group of angry mourners in Saluti B cell, Kasese, who intended to attack Ms Annette Murungi, the mother of two deceased minors reportedly poisoned by their stepfather in Kasese municipality on Thursday night.

The requiem service, led by catechist Henry Kule from St. Maria Goreti Roman Catholic Church, for the two angels could not continue due to the intended attack led by women.

According to reports, Mr. Kasereka Pimako, the LC III for Nyamwamba division, asked the police to investigate and update the community. The mourners were reportedly angered by statements from Ms Murungi, the mother of the late Caroline Mbambu (8) and the late Catherine Kabugho (10), claiming that Mr. Hajji Abdul Kasita, a herbalist and suspect whom she referred to as her sweetheart, could not have killed her children.

In his address later, the Police Liaison Officer for Rwenzori east region, SP Luke Mbusa, reassured mourners that the prime suspect, Dr. Abdul Kasita, along with Ms Jenifer Ithungu, the maid, had been transferred to Fort Portal as a measure to protect sources and prevent any interference with the investigation, which he said the police were handling impartially.
