Climate change has greatly affected the development and livelihoods of many people in Kasese District, leading to frequent floods, loss of crops, destruction of property, and increased poverty levels.

Mr. Asanairi Bukanywa, the Kasese Municipal extension officer, has called for joint efforts aimed at mitigating climate change as means to save lives and the environment.

During an interview with Kasese Guide Radio at his office yesterday (30th.November 2025), Mr. Bukanywa said hard weather conditions involving deadly rains and prolonged drought, were a slap to lives, crops and livestock.

He warned the locals against activities that fuel the situation, including unguided tree cutting and cultivation among members of the local community.

Mr. Bukanywa urged local farmers to take part in tree planting and advised those living near riverbanks to maintain a distance of at least 100 meters from the river for their safety.

Ms. Joyce Muhindo, a resident of the popular Red Cross area in Kasese Municipality, proposes that mitigating deadly weather conditions becomes everyone’s’ role for the safety of lives and property.

Ms. Joyce, one of the residents, explained that they suffer great losses whenever the rivers floods, destroying their crops and damaging their property.

Earlier, Mr. Bukanywa urged local community members against poor garbage disposal to protect mother earth.
