Centenary Bank, in partnership with Good Forests Foundation-Uganda, has launched a Green Campaign, urging Ugandans to work alongside the government and its development partners to transform Uganda into a global environmental destination.

Mr Paul Walakira, the Kasese District Chief Administrative Officer, called for practical plans and a strong commitment from local communities to protect the environment, which he noted has been severely affected by growing population pressure.

Speaking at the launch of the Greening Campaign, held at Kasese Multipurpose Hall in Kasese Municipality on Wednesday, Mr Walakira commended the partnership and encouraged residents to plant and maintain trees on even small plots of land, emphasising the benefits for both health and income.

Mr Walakira speaking on areas experiencing a shortage of land for tree planting.

Mr Selvano Masereka, the Centenary Bank Branch Manager in Kasese, said the institution will continue implementing its corporate social responsibility by supporting communities in the areas of education, the environment, health, and other sectors.

Mr Selvano stated that by planting trees, we are caring for both the planet and its people.

Earlier, Rev Fr Modest Masereka Kasenyangwe, Coordinator of Holy Dove Projects in the Diocese of Kasese, called for initiatives to promote fruit trees, noting that they improve the environment while providing firewood, timber, and nutritious fruit for a healthy diet.

He also urged all people of God to take tree planting and cultivation seriously for the sake of their future well-being.
