Deforestation has increasingly impacted the environment, creating significant challenges for daily life.

Ms Evelyn Kiryaghe Mugume, the Kasese Municipal Environmental Officer, has called for selective logging and sustainable forest management, which she says balances human needs for resources with environmental conservation.

Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day training on environmental conservation organised by Girls for Climate Action at Kasese Resort in Kasese Municipality yesterday, Ms Kiryaghe Mugume, who also emphasised the importance of protecting swamps, stated that selective tree cutting ensures long-term forest health, preserves biodiversity, and mitigates the negative effects of indiscriminate clear-cutting, which does little to offset exhaust gas emissions.

Ms Evelyn discussing the need for the nation to increase forestry and restore forests.

Ms Joanita Babirye, the organisation’s Director, said that protecting the environment requires commitment, patriotism, teamwork, and focus.

Mr Sabastian Bwambale, the team leader for environmental advocates, praised the organisers for choosing Kasese and pledged to serve as active ambassadors for environmental conservation.
