Railway-18 Construction Company has recommended to the World Bank the funding of a drainage master plan to manage floods in Kasese municipality, Thembo Nyamunungu, the company’s former sociologist, has revealed.
Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio this morning, Nyamunungu, concerned that the current devastating floods could damage newly constructed roads under USMID, disclosed that after a survey at the end of their contract, Railway-18 recommended that the World Bank consider funding the project as a long-term solution to protect lives and property from the seasonal floods.
Currently working with Nyamugasana Water Scheme as the project’s sociologist, Nyamunungu, called for the construction of higher and stronger gabions at selected points along Nyamwamba valley, as well as sensitising neighboring communities to avoid interfering with the river valley, He emphasised these measures as vital to managing the floods.
The Kasese municipal mayoral seat contender come 2026 general polls, who also served as the former Rwenzururu Kingdom spokesperson, expressed sympathy for the affected people. He urged them to vigilant and report potential causes of disasters in time.
