Christians urged to care for their bodies and support religious leaders in prayer
The Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale, has urged Catholic legislators to invest in spiritual nourishment, which he believes will strengthen their connection with the Creator.
Presiding over the Pontifical Mass and the lighting of the Christmas tree for Catholic parliamentarians at the Parliament Catholic Chaplaincy last evening, Bishop Kibira encouraged the legislators to work closely with the clergy to remind the lay faithful of their role in the Church and to promote plans for social transformation.
Using an allegory of the rich man’s four wives, representing the body, material possessions, relationships, and beauty, Bishop Kibira advised Catholic legislators against polygamous marriages and the pursuit of quick wealth. He urged them to focus on nurturing their faith in the Lord as a means to save their souls.
The Ordinary of Kasese later stated that, while the Catholic Church was not directly involved in the politics of Uganda, it is her role to awaken the consciousness of the citizens, particularly Members of Parliament, whose legislative duties should protect both the Church and God’s people.
Hon. Col. Tom Butime, the Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, commended the Bishop for his inspirational homily, urging Members of Parliament to assist both the Church and government in conveying certain spiritual and developmental messages to the lay faithful.
Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, the State Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Ferigo Kambale, the Kasese Municipal legislator, Hon. Sowedi Kitanywa, for Busongora County North, and several members of the Kasese Kampala Community attended the Mass.
Kasese Guide Radio has also learned that the Ordinary of Kasese was assisted by several priests, led by Rev. Fr. Godfrey Sunday Baluku, the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator.
