Jane Frances Acilo, the Woman Member of Parliament aspirant for Oyam District under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, has urged voters in Ngai Subcounty to support her candidacy, promising to bring tangible development and economic empowerment to the grassroots.
During her campaign on Thursday, Acilo introduced her husband, George Nkya, and emphasised that her motivation to join politics is rooted in a passion for development, aligning with the vision of President Museveni.
“My major vision is to create grassroots income generation for all,” Acilo said. “I’m not here to give you a handout of 10,000 shillings each, but to provide you with the hooks for fishing. I’m bringing new ideas that will help the people of Oyam District generate sustainable income.”
Acilo highlighted her ongoing initiatives, including the distribution of improved maize seeds to farmers, aimed at increasing yields and boosting incomes. “How many of you received the maize seeds I supplied earlier? That was just a sample of what’s to come. High-yield seeds mean higher production and more income for our farmers, who make up the majority of Oyam’s population.”
She further revealed plans to secure markets for agricultural produce to ensure farmers can sell their crops at fair prices. “I have already engaged dealers who will buy maize grains from us here in Oyam, with a minimum price of 1,000 shillings per kilogram. If you have maize, register at any of my offices located in all 16 Subcounties of Oyam District.”
Acilo announced that the initiative to supply improved maize seeds will continue, with a new phase starting in February 2026 due to high demand.
Before even being elected, Acilo said she has already contributed to the community by sponsoring vulnerable children’s education until completion, awarding prizes to P.7 candidates who scored first grade in Oyam District, organising health camps that provided free medical services to thousands, and providing chairs in every Subcounty for community use.
She appealed to the people of Ngai Subcounty to vote for her based on her manifesto and vision and encouraged them to support all NRM candidates to facilitate development from the village level up to the presidency.
“Vote for me, and you will enjoy more fruits of my hands,” Acilo concluded.
